Humanities.
In geography we have been visiting and learning about the river
Tees,
tracing its story from its source to the sea.
We have also been discovering about the weather: both in Stockton
and around
the world.
We are also learning about and making maps.
In history we have been making a big time line of our history
from the year
1 to the present day. We have looked closely at local history.
In Religious Education we have looked at the ways in which people
from
different religious faiths have celebrated important "first
time"
experiences in their lives. We have also looked at how people who
are not
religious mark these rights of passage.
Students have been learning about the life of the prophet Muhammad
(pbuh)
and
Next we will be looking at important characters from the bible
and what we
can learn from them today.
Since September 2004 the older students have been studying moral
issues for
the first time at Abbey Hill. At the moment we are looking at what
people
from different faith backgrounds believe and do when it comes to
sex and
marriage. Students have been thinking carefully about their own
responses.
We have done this by watching together such films as Four Weddings
and a
Funeral, as a lead in to discussion.
Creative arts - Music.
In September 2004 we started up the Abbey Hill Samba band. We
play a big
variety of percussion instruments and are so loud that we can be
heard all
over - whether people want to hear us or not.
