Science

Preparation for adult life

We have 3 Science teachers at Abbey Hill: Dawn and Patrick at Ketton Road and Neil at the Sheraton building. We also have a technician, Bill.

Every student at Abbey Hill has one Science class per week with an option of one further session per week in upper school. This option allows students to access higher levels of accreditation in their OCR Entry level course. All students achieve AQA unit award accreditation.

The aims of Science at Abbey Hill are:

* To provide a rich and stimulating scientific experience that will foster a fascination and interest in science;

* To present science as an essentially practical experience based largely on first hand experiences in relevant contexts;

* To develop investigative approaches to scientific enquiry that build the confidence necessary to tackle problems with increasing levels of independence;

* To encourage discussion of scientific ideas, and the abilities to question and to justify;

* To support a sense of scientific curiosity, and the development of appropriate levels of knowledge and understanding.

… in short, lots of learning, lots of experiments and loads of fun and games !!!!
