Maths puzzle day Can these smiling students really be doing maths?

Preparation for Working Life
Our maths department consists of 3 staff that all verge on the edge of madness (Valda, John and Anita).

We strongly believe in logic development through play and spend many afternoons playing games such as Rush Hour, Blokus and GoGetter (visit the www.happypuzzle.co.uk to purchase these and other games), whilst our ‘s’ students enjoy working in the cafe area or exploring sand.
Each year the year 9’s run a maths trail for the lower school and also for y6’s from local primary schools. This is good fun for the younger students but is actually run to improve the mathematical and communication skills of the older pupils.
We do, obviously, cover the more ‘academic’ side of maths and all of our students leave with an external accreditation ranging from AQA units, through Entry levels to GCSE’s.
We are fortunate in possessing interactive whiteboards to support are lessons and also using software such as Primary maths to stimulate the students.

As part of our technology college targets we run maths days with Y6 students from our feeder schools and this has the added advantage of improving partnerships with our local network of schools and has provided works experience placements for our KS4 students.
