Preparation for working Life Maths

Comments from a year 11 group of students

Why do you think you do maths?
When do you think you will use maths when you leave school?

To get my qualification, to get me into doing GCSE’s
To help me with my design career
If you are out shopping and buy more than one product you can use a calculator throughout your life
To help your children with their homework
Sort wages
Make up formula to use in business
To be on time for stuff
So you won’t look stupid in a shop when you get the wrong money

Students are taught maths to:

Obtain accreditations at their maximum potential to enable then to study further
Equip them for life by teaching about money, time and using a calculator
Have a basic understanding of economics to be able to budget
Understand that there are other money systems and common money systems such as Euros.
