Preparation for Working Life - Creative Arts/ Music.

Natalie Richardson

Music Skills

1. Why did you choose Music for your option?

“ Because it’s fun and makes me happy.”

2. What do you hope the subject will do for you?

“ It will teach me to sing. I would really like to get a recording contract.”

3 Have you learned what you expected to learn?

“Yes, and some more. As well as singing in groups to the karaoke we have been learning to read music and play tunes on the glockenspiel and tin whistle.”

Personal

Students learn to overcome their inhibitions by performing to an audience.

Social

They learn to work together and in time with others. They meet together in their own time to rehearse for performance.

Cultural

Students listen to and perform music from varied cultures. For example, they have sung local North East songs, learned traditional Irish music and played African drums.

Academic

They have begun to read musical notation and play it on the glockenspiel. Students have not only been asked to express musical preferences, but also to spot different musical styles and to analyse why they prefer some types of music to others.
