
On the 28th January 2005 Abbey Hill School Technology
College notched up another first to add to its long list of achievements.
It has successfully met the criteria for Autistic Accreditation
making it the first state school in the North East, and the first
Technology College nationally to do so.
This
accreditation recognises Abbey Hill has having excellent practice
for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This accreditation
is offered by the National Autistic Society to institutions
that fully meet the standards for excellence in their work
with young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Mike Vening's
(Head teacher) comments about the award were "This is a great
achievement for Abbey Hill that recognises our commitment
to our students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and the excellent
quality of the education we are able to provide for them. We have
invested considerable energy and monies in the further professional
development of our staff, who are our single greatest asset."
