National Autistic Society

On the 28th January 2005 Abbey Hill School Technology College notched up another first to add to its long list of achievements. It has successfully met the criteria for Autistic Accreditation making it the first state school in the North East, and the first Technology College nationally to do so.

This accreditation recognises Abbey Hill has having excellent practice for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This accreditation is offered by the National Autistic Society to institutions that fully meet the standards for excellence in their work with young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Mike Vening's (Head teacher) comments about the award were "This is a great achievement for Abbey Hill that recognises our commitment to our students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and the excellent quality of the education we are able to provide for them. We have invested considerable energy and monies in the further professional development of our staff, who are our single greatest asset."
