Gareth Southgate visit
Students and
staff enjoyed a fun visit from Boro Manager Gareth Southgate,
thanks to the
school’s winning entry in the Premier
League’s Places For Players competition which also netted
the school £2,000. Gareth’s visit was designed to help
raise awareness of the school and he was a great sport taking part
in wheelchair football, practicing skills with his hands tied behind
his back and learning some sign language with the students. To
boost the school’s fundraising efforts, Gareth also took
part in an art class and produced some artwork that we aim to turn
into greeting cards to be sold through school and in the community.
Gareth said he found this the hardest thing to do as he isn’t
very good at art! The visit was a great success and all our visitors
including Gareth said they had a brilliant time – as a result
Abbey Hill even featured on Sky Sports One!
